Behind Bars A jail just two hours outside of Ottawa was the scene of bloodshed this week in a violent prisoner uprising in which one inmate was killed and thirty-four inmates and nine guards were seriously injured. At one point, nearly all of the 458 prisoners were rampaging through the prison, starting fires and destroying equipment. However, by noon yesterday the prisoners had been subdued and officials were in the process of cleaning up and sorting out the situation. In a statement, the warden confirmed that one prisoner had been killed during the disturbance. Other prisoners were badly slashed with knives, two requiring major blood transfusions.
